Edgcumbes started out in 1981 as a tea company , founded by Bob Rendle who returned from Kolkata in India after a career in jute and tea trading. His first product was a blend of Assam and Indian teas which he called Rusper, after the Sussex village he was living in. Coffee soon followed and for many years Edgcumbes operated as a wholesaler and distributor to the catering trade.
In 2015 they decided to open a small takeaway at their Roastery near Arundel, and since then it has grown into a thriving coffee shop serving its freshly roasted coffees and hand blended teas , accompanied by a range of delicious home made & locally sourced cakes, pastries and savoury dishes which can be enjoyed in the beautifully designed café or the sunny courtyard. Our freshly roasted coffees and teas areavailable to buy to make at home and we offer a range of exciting workshops and courses in our adjacent ‘stables’ teaching room for coffee, chocolate, baking , vegan aficionados- what a great way to spend a few hours!
Edgcumbes believe in some very simple things- that FRESH is always best ( we roast and blend on site, and buy all our ingredients from local businesses), that we are OPEN FOR EVERYONE ( our customers come from all walks of life – walkers, cyclists, parents, dog lovers, professionals, tourists .. etc.!) and finally our belief in the benefits of SHARING OUR KNOWLEDGE- there is always a friendly team member happy to chat about all things coffee and tea!
Open 7 days a week, we look forward to welcoming you !
