The Day of the Crowned Death

In the spirit of Janus, the Roman God of endings and beginnings, we will say farewell to the Triennial and hello to a winter season of events and activities on Tuesday 2 November.

Hidden within the Triennial artwork Janus Fortress: Folkestone by Pilar Quinteros is a crowned skull. To mark the end of the Triennial, we will process the sculpture from the East Cliff through the Creative Quarter to its new home in Payers Park. The procession will be a riot of colour and sound, with drummers and school children acting as a guard of honour featuring Michaela Cisarikova Dance Company, Samba Pelo Mar and the Native Oysters Band. Discover more

April is the cruellest month Closing Ceremony

Veterans for Peace UK will be holding a special remembrance event at Michael Rakowitz’s commission for Margate, April is the cruellest month. Intended by the Iraqi-American artist to be ‘an anti-war memorial’, the statue is embedded with the veterans’ votive offerings and local people’s and is modelled after Daniel Taylor, a young soldier who served with the Royal Artillery in Basra, Iraq, during the Iraq War. This event represents the main contribution from VFP London around Remembrance Day.
